Do you know where the meat you eat comes from?
At Chandler & Dunn we like to think that farming is more than just long-term economics, Government strategies or EEC policies. Our two families have an agricultural tradition in the area that’s now into its 5th generation – and with seven members actively involved in the business there’s also a great future ahead. Currently that’s a combination of more than 270 years of hard learned, hands-on experience!
Goldstone Butchers
In 2000 we decided to dicersify the livestock side of the business by developing our own butchery. We began trading for a couple of days a week through a small facility based on the farm. However, it soon became obvious that we needed a larger establishment and in 2004 we converted an old farm builing into a modern butchers shop where we now trade from. Locally produced food with known traceability is key to the business and is an element of our customers demand.
- We use a local slaughterhouse which is approx 8 miles from our farm.
- The location of the abattoir helps to greatly reduce the distance the animals travel, which reduces stress levels. This prevents the animals tensing up, maximising the flavour and tenderness of the meat.
- The Pork we use in our butchery is sourced from a local farm near Deal, using Landacer Cross animals reared under high welfare standards resulting in a high quality carcass.
- We use pork for our dry-cure bacon, and our esteemed sausages.
- We make all our sausages, burgers and pies on site, and produce our own dry-cure bacon. All our meat is Free Range and either home produced or locally sourced.
